Outdoor Leadership Training: Bushcraft and Environmental Activities

Nature's Music: Learning through Outdoor Music and Celebration

Music can be powerful, fun and therapeutic and the outdoors can be a memorable place to make it! This experiential course aims to harness the full potential of making music with your groups to meet diverse objectives.

Course Outcomes:

  • Participants will be trained and supported in how to use music in outdoor settings to encourage
  • self-expression and creativity,
  • communication and cooperation skills,
  • reflecting on and celebrating experiences,
  • connection with and awareness of self, each other and the natural environment.

We will explore curriculum themes connected to music and discover how outdoor musical experiences can enhance learning in other curricular areas.

6 hours of guided learning

Leading Bushcraft with young people level 1

This course will provide participants with the fundamental building blocks of leading bushcraft activities with young people. Participants will learn the skills and be trained in safe group management and risk assessment for firelighting, basic tool use, simple ideas for shelter building. On completion, participants will have been assessed and will have the confidence to lead introductory sessions of bushcraft with young people.

8 hours of guided learning.

Leading Bushcraft with young people level 2

This course will further develop skills  and knowledge for leading bushcraft activities with young people. Participants will learn the further skills in safe group management and risk assessment for, advanced tool use, improvised shelter building and simple woodland management techniques. The course includes building your own shelter, and sleeping in it over night. On completion, participants will have been assessed and will have the confidence to lead intermediate sessions of bushcraft with young people.

20 hours of guided learning.
 
Leading Backwoods Cooking for young people

This course will

  • lead participants in cooking in the woods from Kelly Kettle to a full meal on an open fire
  • train participants in how to manage a group of young people in cooking on open fires
  • introduce skills for foraging for and cooking with wild foods

8 hours of guided learning
